Growing up in the Republic of Texas, life was hard for little Johnny Sullivan. His family owned a huge ranch, which was constantly in danger from outlaws and cattle rustlers. Johnny had to learn early how to protect the ranch from outside dangers.

His father taught Johnny how to use all kinds of rifles and six-shooters. When Johnny Sullivan grew up, he decided that he wanted to be a lawman like Wyatt Earp or Bat Masterson. He became famous for holding off a whole group of outlaws all by himself with his favorite Shotgun. From then on, all the locals knew him as Johnny 'Shotgun' Sullivan.[1]

History[]

Shotgun Confused

Shotgun is confused as to why the mysterious opponent runs in The New Recruit.

Growing up in Texas, Johnny was raised to protect his ranch from outlaws and cattle rustlers, and would later become renowned for holding off an outlaw troupe with his signature shotgun, thus earning the nickname. At some point in his lifetime, he would be summoned by Jandar to Valhalla, and fighting alongside Sgt. Drake in Jandar's northern army endeared him to the man. Sgt. Drake trusted Shotgun with his life.[2]

When Raelin was captured by Utgar's forces, he would join Sgt. Drake, Finn, Thorgrim, the Tarn Viking Warriors and the Airborne Elite to rescue her. He and Drake faced off against a mysterious rider upon Mimring, and was surprised to find that it was Raelin herself - claiming to have joined Utgar's forces of her own volition. Unbeknownst to Drake and Shotgun, she had been mind-shackled by Kee-Mo-Shi.[3]

Raelin, Sgt

Raelin, Drake and Shotgun recover from the Will of Kee-Mo-Shi.

Shotgun would again try to assist Drake in rescuing Raelin, taking down several Grut Orcs and working his way up from below while Drake clashed with her in a high tower. Sgt. Drake's quick thinking severed Kee-Mo-Shi's Mind Shackle amulet from Raelin's neck, and she spirited them both to safety. As Drake crushed the amulet, killing Kee-Mo-Shi, Shotgun would stand over her with Drake and Raelin and reflect on her deadly career. He jested that he was under a similar spell of Raelin's 'baby blues' but it was not received well.[4] [5]

Later, at the Battle of Stechevan in Nastralund, Shotgun would accompany Drake deep into Utgar's camp while the battle raged, intending to help him assassinate Utgar. Several howling Wolves of Badru gave away their position. He was separated from Drake during the battle, during which time Drake lost a duel with Cyprien Esenwein.[2]

Additional Info[]

There is a conflict in canon regarding Shotgun's interference during the Will of Kee-Mo-Shi Comic vs. the Animated Short. In the animated rendition, he is purely climbing the tower to help Sgt. Drake in peril, but in the comic, he meets Kee-Mo-Shi at the tower base and is mind-shackled similarly to Raelin, and it is both of their amulets that Sgt. Drake severs on the way down in order to free them (and both amulets broken to kill Kee-Mo-Shi). Since the comic's rendition of this particular aspect also conflicts with the number of Emerald Amulets listed in Kee-Mo-Shi's bio, it may be considered the less reliable of the two.[6]

FAQ's[]

  • SHOTGUN BLAST SPECIAL ATTACK: Clear Sight Shot
Johnny "Shotgun" Sullivan's Shotgun Blast Special Attack requires a "clear sight shot" to his target. Does the phrase "clear sight" indicate that Johnny "Shotgun" Sullivan needs only line of sight to any part of the figure rather than the hit zone?
No. Johnny "Shotgun" Sullivan needs line of sight to the targeted figure's hitzone to use this attack. (Heroscape designer Jerry Hawthorne)[7]
