From out of the swamps of Durgeth, the Marro Witch climbs. She has died, and been reborn, three times now. Kee-Mo-Shi has found immortality! Her Drones recovered a set of emerald amulets, stolen from a caravan sent out by the Archkyrie Ullar. The amulets contained a great magical force, a magic Kee-Mo-Shi tainted for her own use. She has imbued the amulets of Ullar with the power of a dark telepathic art the Marro call Mind Shackle.

One of the set of three amulets was destroyed by Sgt. Drake Alexander when he rescued a mind-shackled Raelin from Kee-Mo-Shi's grasp. A high-ranking official of Utgar's Army always wears another. That official is tasked with the duty of coming here to Durgeth, and returning Kee-Mo-Shi's consciousness, hidden within the amulet, to the Marro Hive so that she can be reborn if ever she falls in battle. The location of the final amulet remains hidden. Kee-Mo-Shi may even now hold the mind of one seemingly loyal Jandarian in her grasp.[1]

  • Mind Shackle 19:
After moving and before attacking, you may choose any unique figure adjacent to Kee-Mo-Shi. Roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 19 or 20, take control of the chosen figure and that figure's Army Card. You now control that Army Card and all figures on it. Remove any Order Markers on the chosen figure's Army Card. If Kee-Mo-Shi is destroyed, you retain control of any previously Mind Shackled Army Cards.
  • Toxic Skin:
After attacking, you must roll the 20-sided die once for each figure adjacent to Kee-Mo-Shi. If you roll a 17 or higher, that figure receives one wound. Soulborgs are not affected by Toxic Skin.

History[]

Kee Mo Shi

Kee-Mo-Shi lurks in the shadows, while the text promotes the Who is the Shadowed Figure contest.

On Marr, Kee-Mo-Shi was incredibly old, and having channeled her mind-shackling power into her Rod of Obedience, used her power to revenge and scheme for power.[2] At an unknown point, Kee-Mo-Shi was summoned from Marr by Utgar. After arriving, she further expanded her power through use of a set of emerald amulets, stolen from one of Ullar's caravans, allowing her own consciousness to be stored within the stone. She seems to have made multiple attempts to shackle and control Jandar's forces, increasing in her efforts until she managed to mind shackle a warrior as powerful as Raelin, recently captured by Utgar's forces. The whole time, however, she schemed to eventually wrest control of Valhalla from Jandar and Utgar alike.[3]

"Here, there is an eternal war between the armies of Jandar and utgar for the right to control the sacred waters... and the magical powers they bestow. Fighters choose sides between the forces of kindness or cruelty... loyalty or fear... weakness or strength... there is good in this land. And evil. And then there's me." - Kee-Mo-Shi, Heroscape Comic #3

Kee Mo Shi Thwarted

Kee-Mo-Shi decides to retreat as Raelin improbably carries her friends to safety.

Once captured, Kee-Mo-Shi had Raelin masquerade as a mysterious New Recruit for Utgar, riding Mimring into battle. However, when Sgt. Drake and Shotgun Sullivan staged a rescue mission to break into the fortress where Utgar's forces had gathered, Kee-Mo-Shi eventually urged Raelin to take off her helmet and reveal her face, framing her as a betrayer to Jandar's side.[4]

Later, Sgt. Drake and Shotgun Sullivan would come into conflict with the mind-shackled Raelin again. Kee-Mo-Shi watched from afar while Raelin sparred with Sgt. Drake, and busied herself by mind-shackling Shotgun Sullivan near the base of the tower to go hinder Drake's progress further. Sgt. Drake, remembering a conversation he'd had with Jandar about true intentions, realized the amulets must be controlling the minds of his friends, and severed them with a katana slash just in time for Raelin to prevent he and Sullivan from falling off the tower.[2] (Note that in the Will of Kee-Mo-Shi Animated Short, Shotgun Sullivan is never mind-shackled).

RIP Kee-Mo-Shi

Kee-Mo-Shi falls in the Animated Short.

Kee-Mo-Shi tried to escape, but Sgt. Drake further postulated that if the amulets allowed Kee-Mo-Shi to control the minds of the wearer, then they must have a psychic link to her, and crushed them, apparently killing Kee-Mo-Shi.[2] They did not know that as long as at least one of Kee-Mo-Shi's amulets survives, her consciousness can be transferred to a Marro Hive and reborn. A Mind-shackled Taelord returned her consciousness to a hidden hive in Durgeth, where she was reborn for the third time this way.

Additional Info[]

Kee-Mo-Shi was designed by a school-aged girl named Hannah Richard, for Hasbro's Who Is The Shadowed Figure Contest. Hannah's mother was an active Heroscaper at the time. Her original design had Kee-Mo-Shi as an underworld creature with toxic skin (hence her unusual body structure, even for a Marro, and why she is green in her comic appearance). Hasbro changed Kee-Mo-Shi to a Marro, but kept her name and even included a Toxic Skin power. Kee-Mo-Shi would appear in a story arc called 'The Will of Kee-Mo-Shi', which was adapted to both an animated short and a comic book.

Her bio seems to reference the Will of Kee-Mo-Shi animated short in stating that there are three amulets, whereas in the Will of Kee-Mo-Shi comic, there are several, and one of them is briefly worn by Johnny 'Shotgun' Sullivan.

FAQ's[]

  • Clarification on “After Attacking” for Toxic Skin:'
Kee-Mo-Shi’s Toxic Skin states “After Attacking.” Does that mean that she can choose to not attack and therefore won’t have to roll for Toxic Skin (for example, if she has friendly figures adjacent to her)?
Nice try! No, Kee-Mo-Shi will still have to roll for Toxic Skin even if she chooses not to attack. The note of “after attacking” is just to tell you where during your turn you “must” roll for it. Just like previous powers that state “before moving” or “after moving and before attacking” it isn't contingent on actually doing those functions (you can choose not to move, just like you can choose not to attack), it is only a note of when that special power would take effect during that figures turn. Kee-Mo-Shi always rolls for Toxic Skin. (Hasbro FAQ)[5]
