"Sir Hawthorne's blade cuts deep. But when the battle has ended, whose back will bear the wound?" - Champions of Renown packaging.

"Lost in his own petty desires of leading and angry jealousies of his chapter master, a once honorable knight named Sir Hawthorne opened the gates of their battle fortress and led a besieging host to lay slaughter to the noble knights...  In Valhalla, Sir Denrick vowed to selflessly regain the Knights of Weston honor that the traitorous Black Knight Sir Hawthorne had dirtied." - Sir Denrick's lore bio.

Sir Hawthorne was the Gencon Exclusive figure for Gencon 2006, and is a repainted Knight of Weston. Like other exclusive figures, he did not receive a lore bio, however he is referenced both in Sir Denrick's bio as well as the back-of-packaging text in his later re-release, Champions of Renown.

History[]

Sir Hawthorne lived on earth in the late 15th century, where he fought alongside the Knights of Weston and their chapter master Sir Denrick.[1][2] However, growing jealous of Sir Denrick's leadership, Sir Hawthorne eschewed his code of honor to betray his fellow knights, and opened the gates of their fortress at the mouth of the River Lorie in order to let a host of besieging enemies in. Sir Denrick and the Knights of Weston were thought destroyed, but secretly teleported to Valhalla by Jandar, and fight now to restore their dirtied honor.

An unknown amount of time later, Sir Hawthorne was also summoned to Valhalla by Utgar.

Additional Info[]

Although Sir Hawthorne was originally exclusive to Gencon 2006 attendees, he was later released in Wave 10, Valkrill's Gambit: Champions of Renown.

Sir Hawthorne's original name was Sir Cristopher, possibly after Heroscape designer Chris Dupuis, and was reflected as such in Sir Denrick's bio. However, he was changed to Sir Hawthorne, likely after Heroscape designer Jerry 'Grungebob' Hawthorne, and Sir Denrick's bio was updated to reflect this on Heroscape.com.[4] Chris Dupuis would later get a namesake in Sir Dupuis instead.

FAQ's[]

  • Is Stab in the Back an optional ability?
At the end of my turn is it required that I roll the 20 sided dice for Stab in the Back?
Yes! After ending a turn with Sir Hawthorne, you MUST roll for Stab in the Back, even if the turn was taken by using Human Champion Bonding. [Non-official FAQ].[4]
  • How does Stab in the Back affect the MacDirk Warriors Chosen Champion?
If I choose Sir Hawthorne to be the Chosen Champion for the MacDirk Warriors, what happens if Stab in the Back forces me to hand him over to an opponent?
Although Sir Hawthorne no longer belongs to your army, he is still the Chosen Champion for the MacDirk Warriors. Any wound received before or after Stab in the Back will still aid them, although the controlling player might have the ability to heal Sir Hawthorne. [Non-official FAQ].[4]
  • How do multiple Sir Hawthornes interact? If each player is playing with a Sir Hawthorne in their Army, and you have to use Stab in the Back (because of your roll), who takes control of Sir Hawthorne?  You cannot choose an opponent that already has a Sir Hawthorne in their Army because you can only have 1 of each Unique figure in an Army. If all players have a Sir Hawthorne in their Army, Stab in the Back would be negated and would not come into play. Remember that even if one of the Sir Hawthornes were to die, that figure would still be in that player’s Army. [Hasbro FAQ].[5]
  • Where can I get Sir Hawthorne?Where can I get Sir Hawthorne?  Sir Hawthorne was an exclusive figure available at Gencon 2006. Sir Hawthorne was re-released in Collection 10: Valkrill’s Gambit. [Hasbro FAQ].[6]
