Utgar Symbol

Utgar is a Valkyrie General, the Archkyrie of Upper Bleakwoode, at one time part of the Council of Archkyrie,[1] and one of greatest threats to peace in Valhalla. He plans to find and possess all 15 of the Wellsprings and the amulets that go with them, which will allow him to invade other worlds like Earth.[2] This prompted Jandar to form an Alliance against him, which included Ullar, Einar, Vydar, and later Aquilla.

History[]

Rise of the Valkyrie[]

Utgar's Grut Orcs were some of the first otherworlders summoned to Valhalla, and were responsible for much of the early destruction of its villages and peoples.[3] According to Jandar's visions, he planned to hunt down the locations of all fifteen wellsprings, and gather their respective amulets needed to control the wellspring visions and gain control over their spacetime properties. Jandar suspected he would use these to invade other worlds beyond Valhalla, beginning with Earth:[2]

"My recent visions show Utgar placing one of the 15 amulets in each chamber of a wellspring. He forces a captive human to press his hands against the two panels. A portal opens to the planet Earth, and the next event is so horrific that it sends shivers of fear throughout my entire being: a horde of Marro and their minions fly through the portal, Earthbound and feverish to invade and conquer. We must not, we will not, allow these events to occur." - Jandar

Utgar Summons Mimring

He summoned the dragon Mimring, and would later assign the dragon to oversee the conquered Concan's Castle.[4]

"Come forth in my service... do not fail me." - Utgar, summoning Mimring

Taelord Grimaces

Utgar grimaces at the camera in the Animated Commercial.

During the period of his collaboration with Einar,[5] he oversaw a war party of Deathwalker 9000, Ne-Gok-Sa, Grimnak, Agent Carr and an Izumi Samurai on a dark night, and grimaced menacingly.[6]

Although he had a brief alliance with Einar at the beginning of the war, this understanding was disturbed by Utgar's Minions attempting to assassinate Empress Kiova.[5][7]

Although he was poised to overwhelm Valhalla's generals, including a pivotal invasion force bound for the ruins of Stechevan to overwhelm Jandar's forces in Nastralund and a swarm of Marro to attack Ullar's half-finished fortress in Ekstrom, the forming of an Alliance by Jandar, Ullar, Vydar and Einar against him foiled his efforts temporarily.[8]

Swarm of the Marro[]

His focus would shift to establishing a Marro Hive in the Ticalla Jungle, which spawned endless hordes of Marro soldiers for him to command. This put him in a position to fight the entire Alliance and he was winning the war for a period of time.[9]

After the events of Swarm of the Marro and Aquilla's joining the Alliance, Utgar directed his hordes to invade Feldspar Pass at the edge of Ticalla Jungle, in order to block the passage of aid from the Allied Generals in the north to the armies of Aquilla in the south. He did not care about the environmental impact that building a fortification there would have on the native Quasatch tribe that inhabited the Feldspar ruins.[10]

Dungeons and Dragons[]

In the Dungeons and Dragons portion of the continuity, Utgar had an extended interest in Valhalla's Underdark, a network of caves and subterranean chambers left behind by the creators of the Wellsprings. He sent emissaries, including the dragon Othkurik, to guard various bases and potential wellsprings in the depths.[11] A kyrie close with his followers would take advantage of the isolation to foster magical power, becoming the Valkyrie General Valkrill.[12][13]

Additional Info[]

Runa is either his daughter, or carries herself with enough destructive prowess to earn the reputation.[14]

Utgar is voiced in the Heroscape Mini-Movie by Paul St. Peter.[15]

Original Era Figures[]

As the primary antagonist of Rise of the Valkyrie and Swarm of the Marro, Utgar has a very large proportion of Heroscape figures compared to the other generals. Some of his units, such as Taelord, Mimring, Ne-Gok-Sa and Kee-Mo-Shi, have served as major antagonists within Heroscape's storylines.
