Vydar Symbol

Vydar's original crest design.

Vydar is a Valkyrie General, the Archkyrie of Anund, and at one time part of the Council of Archkyrie.[1] His once magnificent Montfre Manor has withered, as have his lands, their waters poisoned by the Marro pollution flowing from upper Ostriyick. His people have abandoned him, and he shelters in the hidden bunker beneath his manor, summoning an army of Soulborgs and futuristic agents.[2] He remained duplicitous in the Rise of the Valkyrie, working with either Jandar and Ullar or Utgar and Einar depending on the mission at hand.[3] However, at Thormun's behest, he joined Jandar's Alliance against Utgar.[2] He has a particular affinity for Soulborgs and futuristic agents.

History[]

Ch3-journal27

Vydar mocks Thormun from his throne.[4]

At one point early in the Rise of the Valkyrie, he sent Agent Carr to work alongside Utgar and Einar's makeshift alliance, accompanying Deathwalker 9000 and the Izumi Samurai in a warband against Jandar's forces.[5] It was not enough to prevent Utgar's forces from destroying the environment in Upper Ostriyick, and the pollutants made their way downstream to ruin his lands. When Jandar sent Thormun on a diplomatic mission to invite him to the Alliance, Vydar was bitter and initially skeptical of the idea.

“You only wish to what?! To change the flow of our rivers’ water to move upstream?! The water that feeds our land runs out of Upper Bleakwoode and Ostriyick. It has become tainted by Utgar’s hordes. Vile and disgusting creatures, they plague the land with their filth. And my own people turn against me. They blame me for this! Fools! They believe that we can simply escape war by running from it. They’ve retreated south into Kinsland, beyond my protective reach. I’ve been abandoned by my own people, my land is dying, and my armies wear thin trying to wrest control of the water’s source from Utgar. Now what is it you think I have to offer your mutual friendship?"

Nevertheless, he would be convinced by Thormun's bold words and join the Alliance against Utgar.[6] Thormun and Tyrian would go exploring deeper into Montfre Manor later that night, discovering that Vydar had built a subterranean lair beneath his seemingly abandoned castle, expanded constantly by drilling soulborgs.[2]

Thormun's mission to unite Jandar, Ullar, Vydar and Einar in the Alliance was successful. Einar provided the Looking Glasses of Vaelentela, artifacts that would allow the generals to speak with each other over the long distances between their Regions, to aid the new Alliance.[7]

Dungeons and Dragons[]

In the Dungeons and Dragons portion of the continuity, he would send his operative Mika Connour to Shadow Cavern with an Iron Golem bodyguard to investigate the newly fledged Valkyrie General Valkrill. Upon discovering that Valkrill had managed to summon his first troops, Vydar opted to leave the Alliance, believing that the tides had turned against them.[8]

“Sorry friend, Valkrill changes things. Vydar can no longer bet it all on Jandar’s high hopes. He’s going to have to start following his own agenda now, and unfortunately, you alerting Jandar and the others about this wellspring, is not on the agenda." - Mika Connour

Additional Info[]

He is described as having black-feathered wings, a muscled build and long black hair, along with a scar over his right eye.[2]

Classic Era Figures[]

Vydar has a less noted presence in Heroscape's lineup of characters than some generals, but of note is the merciful soulborg Major Q10, who accompanies Sgt. Drake Alexander, Raelin, Sonlen and Shiori into the Ticalla Jungle in Swarm of the Marro.

  • Laglor: Vydar’s Range Enhancement Aura: All friendly figures with a range of 4 or more who follow Vydar and are within 4 clear sight spaces of Laglor add 2 spaces to their Range number. Vydar’s Range Enhancement Aura does not affect Laglor.
  • Agent Skahen: Cover Fire: When attacking an opponents figure, if Agent Skahen inflicts one or more wounds, you may move one Tricky figure you control who follows Vydar and is within 8 clear sight spaces of Agent Skahen up to 4 spaces. You cannot use cover fire to move Agent Skahen.
  • Blastatrons: Homing Device: When attacking a non-adjacent figure, add 1 attack die for every Soulborg who follows Vydar who you control that is adjacent to the defending figure.
